Who operates the app

Information we process
- Account information: when you use Google or Apple sign-in, we receive an account identifier and may receive your name and email address. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
- Profile information: information you enter in the app, such as your display name, gender preference, and selected language.
- Group and location information: if you use Group Locator and grant location permission, your location, update time, group membership, and display name may be shared with members of the group you choose to join. Location sharing is used only to provide the group-location feature.
- User content: questions or messages you intentionally submit through support, Ask a Scholar, or Pilgrim Companion AI features.
- Purchase information: subscription and purchase status supplied by Apple. Payment-card details are handled by Apple and are not provided to us.
- Local app data: bookmarks, guide progress, language, and some preferences may be stored only on your device.
- Technical information: service providers may process device, network, IP-address, authentication, security, and diagnostic information needed to operate and protect their services.
How we use information
We use information to authenticate accounts, provide requested app features, display and share group locations at your direction, maintain subscriptions, answer submitted questions, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use Google user data for advertising.
Google user data
Google sign-in is used only to authenticate you and create or access your Pilgrim Companion account. Google account information is used only for this user-facing purpose and related security and support. Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
When information is shared
Information may be processed by service providers that help operate the app, including Google Firebase for authentication, database and configuration services; Apple for sign-in and in-app purchases; and backend hosting providers used for group features. Group location is visible to members of a group you voluntarily join. We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to protect users, rights, and service security.
Location controls
Location access is optional and controlled through iOS Settings. You can stop location access at any time. Leaving a group or disabling location access stops new location updates, although previously stored records may remain temporarily until deleted under normal retention processes.
Retention and deletion
We retain account and service information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect security. You can delete your authentication account from Settings → Account & cross-device sign-in → Delete account. You may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion. Information stored only on your device can be removed by deleting the app or clearing the relevant feature data.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system is completely secure. Providers may process information in countries other than your own. Firebase states that Firebase Authentication is operated from United States data centers and that other Firebase services may use global infrastructure.
Children
Pilgrim Companion is not directed to children under the minimum digital-consent age applicable in their country. If you believe a child supplied personal information without appropriate consent, contact us so we can review and delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or legal requirements change. The current version and effective date will always be posted on this page.
